Committee and Organisation
How we operate
Our General Committee
Friends of Antara UK has a (national) General Committee of 15-20 people from a diversity of backgrounds and with a wide range of skills.
The General Commmittee makes decisions on the direction of our support, the development of our organisation and our activities.
The general committee also guides local committees which carry out the majority of our activities. Representatives of local committees sit on the general committee and often have active roles in both.
Membership and Trustees
In line with our governing document Friends of Antara UK has both members and trustees.
- Members - any member of the public can become a member. Members can contribute to discussions and express views at our general meetings abut not vote on day-to-day decisions. Members have the power to vote in committee members, officers and trustees at our annual general meeting (read our constitution for more details). To become a member you need to complete our membership application form here, and return it along with an annual membership fee of £2 by the 1st February.
- Trustees - are legally responsible for our activities and the organisation. They may vote on all decisions which determine our day-to-day activities (read our constitution for more details). To become a trustee you must also be a member of the charity and ask another member to nominate you using the Trustee Nomination Form here.
Note that you need to be a member to sit on our general committee but you do not need to be a trustee. If you have more questions about being a trustee or member, or about our registered status please e-mail registration@friendsofantarauk.org
Meetings and Elections
We hold general meetings at least three times a year and extra-general meetings, where particular decisions or deadlines must be met. Our commitee is spread around the country so we meet centrally in Leeds or York.
Our national committee is elected yearly at our Annual General Meeting, (October) by our members and trustees.
Committee Roles
General Committee
Our work is much wider than simple fundraising and as a result we have many roles to fill on the general committee. If you have skills to offer please contact us.
You can find a list and brief outline of roles in our general committee here. Our present committee can be seen here.
University or Local Commitees
The structure of local groups and available roles are determined by the local committee. Often local groups work closely together and share roles such as:
- Chair
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Press and Publicity
- Volunteer recruitment.
- Products coordinator
